Overview

What the Dalian Coast & Old Trams is

The mildest city in the northeast: cliff coast roads, 1930s trams still running, a Russian quarter and good beaches inside the city limits. Seafood at Muslim-run restaurants, with no alcohol on the premises.

This is a private departure, not a shared coach. You choose the dates, we rebuild the 5 days around them: Dalian, Shenyang, in that order, with the halal restaurants and the mosques placed first and the sightseeing fitted around them.

The halal guarantee on this route: every restaurant is a certified halal restaurant with no pork and no alcohol on the premises. We send the full list with addresses before you fly, and your guide re-checks each booking the day before you eat there. Shenyang is easy: the South Mosque is central and active with a whole halal district around it. Harbin has the Daowai mosque and we plan around it. In the extreme cold, we shorten the time between prayer stops and keep the vehicle available as a warm space with a prayer mat. Changbaishan has limited Muslim facilities, so we confirm a prayer room at your hotel before you arrive.

Cities

Every city this route passes through

Each one with what you actually see there, what you eat, where you pray and how you arrive.

Dalian (Liaoning)

1 full day · May to October. July and August are the swimming months and the city is at its best.

A port city on the Yellow Sea with hills, trams, Russian and Japanese architecture and a genuinely good coastline. The mildest city in the northeast and the best seafood.

Xinghai Square and the coast road — A huge seafront square and a coastal road with cliffs, beaches and a bridge out over the water.
Dalian old trams and Russian street — The 1930s tram cars still run, and the old Russian quarter is walkable in an hour.
Bangchuidao and Laohutan — Two of the better beaches inside the city, with an aquarium and a coastal path.
Muslim-run seafood restaurants serving fish, prawns and shellfish with no alcohol on the premises, plus Hui beef and mutton kitchens inland. We pre-check every seafood booking.
Dalian mosque — Active and central, with wudhu. Jumuah is straightforward.
Dalian Zhoushuizi (DLC) airport, high-speed rail from Shenyang in about two hours.

Shenyang (Liaoning)

1 full day · April to October. Winters are very cold but the palace is at its most atmospheric under snow.

The old Manchu capital, with an imperial palace predating Beijing's Forbidden City and a substantial Hui community in the streets around the South Mosque.

Shenyang Imperial Palace — Built in 1625 by the Manchu before they took Beijing: a smaller, harder-edged palace with a very different feel from the Ming one.
Shenyang South Mosque — A large, historic Hui mosque with a long courtyard, and the anchor of the surrounding halal food streets.
Zhaoling tomb and Beiling park — The tomb of the first Qing emperor in a huge park of old pines, worth the walk for the spirit path alone.
Northeast Hui cooking: halal mutton hotpot, beef buns, grilled skewers, and a very good halal cold noodle in summer. The streets around the South Mosque are lined with halal kitchens.
Shenyang South Mosque — Large, historic, central and very active. Wudhu on site.
Shenyang Taoxian (SHE) airport, high-speed rail from Beijing in about two and a half hours.
Day by day

How the 5 days actually run

A working skeleton, not a fixed package. We rebuild it around your dates, your prayer needs and whoever is travelling with you.

1

Arrive in Dalian

Dalian Zhoushuizi (DLC) airport, high-speed rail from Shenyang in about two hours. Your Muslim guide meets you at the gate with your name on a board. First stop is a hotel we have placed within walking distance of Dalian mosque, so Maghrib is a short walk rather than a negotiation. Dinner is already booked at a halal kitchen we have audited.

2

Dalian — Xinghai Square and the coast road

A huge seafront square and a coastal road with cliffs, beaches and a bridge out over the water.

3

Dalian to Shenyang

Leave after Dhuhr and drive out. Shenyang Taoxian (SHE) airport, high-speed rail from Beijing in about two and a half hours. Your guide breaks the drive for salah and for food rather than at a service station of his choosing. You arrive in time for Maghrib at Shenyang South Mosque.

4

Shenyang — Shenyang Imperial Palace

Built in 1625 by the Manchu before they took Beijing: a smaller, harder-edged palace with a very different feel from the Ming one.

5

Depart from Shenyang

A last halal breakfast, then the transfer out. Shenyang Taoxian (SHE) airport, high-speed rail from Beijing in about two and a half hours. We hold the vehicle until your flight is called, and if you are fasting we send a breakfast box the night before.

Every day is salah-first. Dalian, Shenyang each have mosques we have used before; on the driving legs your guide breaks the journey at prayer time rather than at a service station of his choosing.

FAQ

Questions travellers ask us every week

It is private. There is no seat-in-coach departure and no joining other travellers — the vehicle, the guide and the 5 days belong to your party alone. You pick the start date and we build around it. That is also why the halal logistics work: a kitchen booking for four people is a conversation, not a contract.
Every restaurant on this route is a certified halal kitchen with no pork and no alcohol on the premises. In Dalian, Shenyang we use: Muslim-run seafood restaurants serving fish, prawns and shellfish with no alcohol on the premises, plus Hui beef and mutton kitchens inland; Northeast Hui cooking: halal mutton hotpot, beef buns, grilled skewers, and a very good halal cold noodle in summer. You receive the complete list with street addresses before you fly, and your guide re-confirms each booking the day before you eat there.
Dalian mosque in Dalian (Active and central, with wudhu. Jumuah is straightforward.); Shenyang South Mosque in Shenyang (Large, historic, central and very active. Wudhu on site.). On the driving legs your guide breaks the journey at prayer time. Every vehicle carries a prayer mat, a compass and a sheet of prayer times calculated for your exact dates.
This is our gentlest pacing: short legs, one base at a time, and most days are a city day rather than a road day. Dalian · Shenyang are spread over 5 days, so you are never in the vehicle long enough to lose a prayer.
Yes, and we do it often. Suhoor boxes are delivered to your hotel before Fajr, afternoons are kept slow, iftar is confirmed at a certified halal restaurant every night, and we find you a mosque for Taraweeh wherever you happen to be. If you want to spend the last ten nights or Eid in one city, tell us and we will re-cut the route around it.
International flights and Chinese visas are quoted separately. Travel insurance, personal shopping, optional activities outside the plan and tips are not included — and we do not add shopping stops to make up the difference. Everything listed under What is included is genuinely in the price.
