Huaisheng Mosque
Traditionally the oldest mosque in China, with its distinctive Guangta minaret. In continuous use and an easy stop from the centre.
Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) is South China's core gateway, with the densest network into Southeast Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Huaisheng Mosque, China's oldest, stands minutes from halal Cantonese dim sum halls.
Guangzhou has been a Muslim port city since the Tang dynasty — Arab and Persian merchants came by sea and built what is now called Huaisheng Mosque, the Lighthouse Mosque, traditionally dated to the seventh century. That history is still visible: the city has one of China's oldest continuous Muslim communities and a large modern one, because Guangzhou is also the trading hub for African and Middle Eastern buyers.
For Muslim travellers this translates into something unusual — genuinely good halal Cantonese food. Dim sum under halal rules is not a compromise here, it is a specialty. Baiyun airport is the southern anchor of China's international network with direct links across Southeast Asia, Africa, the Gulf and increasingly Europe.
The core gateway of South China and one of the busiest airports in the country, carrying the densest route network into Southeast Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
Terminal 1 and the newer Terminal 2 handle most international traffic; there are prayer rooms airside and landside. Your driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name board.
