Overview

What the Guangxi Family River Loop is

Eight days, four bases, gentle drives. Bamboo rafts on the Li, a night up in the terraces, and a warm sea at the end. Bikes with child seats, kid-safe halal menus and a prayer stop built into every day.

This is a private departure, not a shared coach. You choose the dates, we rebuild the 9 days around them: Guilin, Yangshuo, Longsheng & Longji, Beihai, in that order, with the halal restaurants and the mosques placed first and the sightseeing fitted around them.

The halal guarantee on this route: every restaurant is a certified halal restaurant with no pork and no alcohol on the premises. We send the full list with addresses before you fly, and your guide re-checks each booking the day before you eat there. Guilin and Nanning both have mosques with regular congregations, and halal restaurants nearby. Yangshuo's Muslim community is small, so on Yangshuo days we confirm the current halal options before your trip and, if needed, arrange a mosque visit in Guilin or a prepared halal meal in Yangshuo. Your guide carries a prayer mat and keeps the day's salah times in the vehicle.

Cities

Every city this route passes through

Each one with what you actually see there, what you eat, where you pray and how you arrive.

Guilin (Guangxi)

1 full day · March to November. April to October is the best river water; summer is hot and humid.

The karst city: vertical limestone hills inside the city limits, the Li river running south, and one of the oldest Hui communities in southern China in the streets around the old mosque.

Li river city reach and Elephant Trunk Hill — The river runs right through town, with the famous rock formation at the confluence. Walk the riverside promenade at dusk.
Guilin old mosque — A Ming-dynasty Hui mosque in the old centre, still active, with halal restaurants on the street outside it.
Reed Flute Cave — A lit limestone cave system twenty minutes out of town, cool underground and an easy half day.
Guilin Hui cooking is its own thing: halal Guilin rice noodles, beef hotpot, grilled river fish prepared halal, and a well-known Hui sweet cake. The Hui quarter has dozens of kitchens.
Guilin old mosque — Central, historic and active, with wudhu on site.
Guilin Liangjiang (KWL) airport, high-speed rail from Guangzhou in about three hours.

Yangshuo (Guangxi)

1 full day · April to October. Summer is hot and the river is at its best; winter is quiet and misty.

The village at the end of the Li river cruise, surrounded by karst towers and rice paddies. Cormorant fishermen, cycling lanes and the most photographed stretch of river in China.

Li river bamboo raft — The classic float from Yangdi to Xingping, passing the view printed on the twenty-yuan note. Quietest in the early morning.
Countryside cycling — Flat lanes between karst towers, rice fields and villages. We arrange bikes with child seats and keep the loop short.
Cormorant fishing at dusk — On the Yulong river, still done with birds and lanterns for visitors, and best in the last hour before Maghrib.
Hui-run halal restaurants in Yangshuo town serve halal rice noodles, beer-fish made halal without the alcohol, grilled beef and Li-river fish. We pre-book and avoid the tourist barbecue strips.
Yangshuo mosque — Small, in the county town. On river days we plan prayer at the hotel before you board.
One hour by road from Guilin, or arrive directly by boat down the Li river.

Longsheng & Longji (Guangxi)

1 full day · May to June when the terraces are flooded and mirror-like, and late September to October when the rice turns gold.

The Dragon Backbone rice terraces, cut into a mountain by Yao and Zhuang families over six centuries, two hours north of Guilin. Wooden stilt villages, and the water-filled terraces reflecting the sky in spring.

Longji terrace viewpoints — Several terraced valleys at different heights, connected by stone stair paths. Stay one night up in a stilt-house guesthouse, because the day-trip crowds leave by four.
Huangluo Yao village — A Yao settlement known for the extraordinarily long hair of its women, with a small museum and evening song and dance.
Terrace sunrise walk — A forty-minute climb from the upper village to the top viewpoint, worth doing for the dawn light.
Village kitchens cook halal on request with advance notice: free-range chicken, mountain vegetables, bamboo rice and cured pork alternatives. We notify the guesthouse a day ahead and confirm.
Longsheng mosque — In Longsheng county town, at the foot of the mountain. We plan the terrace night around prayer in town before driving up.
Two hours by road north of Guilin. No rail; we drive it.

Beihai (Guangxi)

1 full day · April to November for the sea. July to September is typhoon season, so keep one buffer day.

A Gulf of Tonkin port city with a long sandy beach, an old colonial and merchant quarter, and the ferry pier for Weizhou island. Warm sea, cheap seafood and a slow pace.

Silver Beach — A long, shallow, clean beach on the south side of the city, with a promenade and sunsets over the water.
Weizhou island — A volcanic island two hours offshore, with a church, basalt cliffs, banana plantations and very good snorkelling in summer.
Beihai old street — A kilometre of arcaded colonial-fronted shophouses, rebuilt and now full of teahouses and small museums.
Seafood is the draw and we handle it the halal way: Muslim-run seafood restaurants in the city, fish and prawns only, and no alcohol on the premises. Plus Hui beef and lamb kitchens inland.
Beihai mosque — A small mosque in the city serving the Hui community. On Weizhou island we plan prayer at the guesthouse.
Beihai Fucheng (BHY) airport, high-speed rail from Nanning in about 90 minutes.
Day by day

How the 9 days actually run

A working skeleton, not a fixed package. We rebuild it around your dates, your prayer needs and whoever is travelling with you.

1

Arrive in Guilin

Guilin Liangjiang (KWL) airport, high-speed rail from Guangzhou in about three hours. Your Muslim guide meets you at the gate with your name on a board. First stop is a hotel we have placed within walking distance of Guilin old mosque, so Maghrib is a short walk rather than a negotiation. Dinner is already booked at a halal kitchen we have audited.

2

Guilin — Li river city reach and Elephant Trunk Hill

The river runs right through town, with the famous rock formation at the confluence. Walk the riverside promenade at dusk.

3

Guilin to Yangshuo

Leave after Dhuhr and drive out. One hour by road from Guilin, or arrive directly by boat down the Li river. Your guide breaks the drive for salah and for food rather than at a service station of his choosing. You arrive in time for Maghrib at Yangshuo mosque.

4

Yangshuo — Li river bamboo raft

The classic float from Yangdi to Xingping, passing the view printed on the twenty-yuan note. Quietest in the early morning.

5

Yangshuo to Longsheng & Longji

Set off mid-morning, once the light is good. Two hours by road north of Guilin. No rail; we drive it. We stop for salah, and lunch is a halal kitchen we have booked on the route rather than whatever is nearest the motorway. You arrive in time for Maghrib at Longsheng mosque.

6

Longsheng & Longji — Longji terrace viewpoints

Several terraced valleys at different heights, connected by stone stair paths. Stay one night up in a stilt-house guesthouse, because the day-trip crowds leave by four.

7

Longsheng & Longji to Beihai

Depart after a late breakfast and a short walk. Beihai Fucheng (BHY) airport, high-speed rail from Nanning in about 90 minutes. The drive is broken twice: once for prayer, once for a proper halal meal, with water and a prayer mat in the vehicle. You arrive in time for Maghrib at Beihai mosque.

8

Beihai — Silver Beach

A long, shallow, clean beach on the south side of the city, with a promenade and sunsets over the water.

9

Depart from Beihai

A last halal breakfast, then the transfer out. Beihai Fucheng (BHY) airport, high-speed rail from Nanning in about 90 minutes. We hold the vehicle until your flight is called, and if you are fasting we send a breakfast box the night before.

Every day is salah-first. Guilin, Yangshuo, Longsheng & Longji, Beihai each have mosques we have used before; on the driving legs your guide breaks the journey at prayer time rather than at a service station of his choosing.

Fasting? Tell us and we run the route in Ramadan: suhoor boxes delivered before Fajr, slow afternoons, and iftar confirmed at a halal restaurant every single night.
Prayer

Where you pray on this route

Not a list of every mosque in the province — the ones we actually build into this itinerary, with wudhu and women’s space confirmed.

Guilin old mosque

Guilin

Central, historic and active, with wudhu on site.

A central historic mosque and a Hui quarter around it make this one of the easier cities in southern China for prayer.

Yangshuo mosque

Yangshuo

Small, in the county town. On river days we plan prayer at the hotel before you board.

A small mosque in town and prayer at the hotel on river days. Your guide carries a mat and a compass for the raft trip.

Longsheng mosque

Longsheng & Longji

In Longsheng county town, at the foot of the mountain. We plan the terrace night around prayer in town before driving up.

Pray in Longsheng town before the climb, then use a mat and compass at the guesthouse. The terraces face east, which makes Fajr easy to orient.

Beihai mosque

Beihai

A small mosque in the city serving the Hui community. On Weizhou island we plan prayer at the guesthouse.

Pray in the city, and for the island night we book a guesthouse where you can pray privately. The ferry schedule is built around leaving after Dhuhr.

On the road: your guide carries a prayer mat, a compass and a prayer-time sheet calculated for your exact dates, and stops the vehicle rather than the prayer.

FAQ

Questions travellers ask us every week

It is private. There is no seat-in-coach departure and no joining other travellers — the vehicle, the guide and the 9 days belong to your party alone. You pick the start date and we build around it. That is also why the halal logistics work: a kitchen booking for four people is a conversation, not a contract.
Every restaurant on this route is a certified halal kitchen with no pork and no alcohol on the premises. In Guilin, Yangshuo, Longsheng & Longji, Beihai we use: Guilin Hui cooking is its own thing: halal Guilin rice noodles, beef hotpot, grilled river fish prepared halal, and a well-known Hui sweet cake; Hui-run halal restaurants in Yangshuo town serve halal rice noodles, beer-fish made halal without the alcohol, grilled beef and Li-river fish; Village kitchens cook halal on request with advance notice: free-range chicken, mountain vegetables, bamboo rice and cured pork alternatives; Seafood is the draw and we handle it the halal way: Muslim-run seafood restaurants in the city, fish and prawns only, and no alcohol on the premises. You receive the complete list with street addresses before you fly, and your guide re-confirms each booking the day before you eat there.
Guilin old mosque in Guilin (Central, historic and active, with wudhu on site.); Yangshuo mosque in Yangshuo (Small, in the county town. On river days we plan prayer at the hotel before you board.); Longsheng mosque in Longsheng & Longji (In Longsheng county town, at the foot of the mountain. We plan the terrace night around prayer in town before driving up.); Beihai mosque in Beihai (A small mosque in the city serving the Hui community. On Weizhou island we plan prayer at the guesthouse.). On the driving legs your guide breaks the journey at prayer time. Every vehicle carries a prayer mat, a compass and a sheet of prayer times calculated for your exact dates.
This is our gentlest pacing: short legs, one base at a time, and most days are a city day rather than a road day. Guilin · Yangshuo · Longsheng & Longji · Beihai are spread over 9 days, so you are never in the vehicle long enough to lose a prayer.
Yes, and we do it often. Suhoor boxes are delivered to your hotel before Fajr, afternoons are kept slow, iftar is confirmed at a certified halal restaurant every night, and we find you a mosque for Taraweeh wherever you happen to be. If you want to spend the last ten nights or Eid in one city, tell us and we will re-cut the route around it.
International flights and Chinese visas are quoted separately. Travel insurance, personal shopping, optional activities outside the plan and tips are not included — and we do not add shopping stops to make up the difference. Everything listed under What is included is genuinely in the price.
