Overview

What the Sichuan Family Loop is

Nine days with one base and no early-Fajr hurrying. Pandas, the irrigation channels, the Giant Buddha and the Jiuzhaigou boardwalks, with short drives, kid-safe halal menus and a prayer stop planned into every single day.

This is a private departure, not a shared coach. You choose the dates, we rebuild the 9 days around them: Chengdu, Dujiangyan, Leshan, Jiuzhaigou, in that order, with the halal restaurants and the mosques placed first and the sightseeing fitted around them.

The halal guarantee on this route: every restaurant is a certified halal restaurant with no pork and no alcohol on the premises. We send the full list with addresses before you fly, and your guide re-checks each booking the day before you eat there. Chengdu is straightforward: Huangcheng Mosque in the centre and Qingbaijiang Mosque to the north both handle daily and Friday prayers, and the halal restaurants around them are used to Muslim guests. Chengdu's high-speed rail links mean you can reach Xi'an in about 3 hours and Chongqing in about 1.5 hours without losing a prayer window.

Cities

Every city this route passes through

Each one with what you actually see there, what you eat, where you pray and how you arrive.

Chengdu (Sichuan)

1 full day · March to May and September to November. Summers are hot and humid; winters are mild but grey.

The capital of Sichuan and one of the easiest big Chinese cities to eat halal in. A Hui quarter around Huangcheng Mosque, a long tradition of Muslim-run beef kitchens, and Giant Panda breeding base on the northern edge of town.

Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding — Get there before 9am when the pandas are actually awake and feeding. The site is large and shaded, and a buggy saves a lot of walking.
Huangcheng Mosque — A Ming-dynasty mosque rebuilt in the 18th century, in the middle of the Hui quarter. Courtyard, ablution facilities and halal restaurants out the front door.
Jinli and Wide and Narrow Alleys — Rebuilt old-town streets for teahouses, courtyards and Sichuan snacks. We stick to the halal stalls and the teahouses rather than the pork-heavy menus.
Sichuan halal beef is a genuine tradition here: braised beef, beef hotpot with a halal broth, Muslim-run lamb skewers and hand-pulled noodles. There are more than a hundred halal kitchens inside the ring road.
Huangcheng Mosque — Central, historic and very active. Jumuah is easy and the surrounding streets are full of halal food.
Chengdu Tianfu (TFU) and Shuangliu (CTU). Direct flights from most of China plus a good number of international gateways.

Dujiangyan (Sichuan)

1 full day · March to November. Summer is the most comfortable time to be on Qingchengshan.

A 2,300-year-old irrigation system that still works, an hour from Chengdu, plus the forested Qingcheng mountain behind it. An easy day or overnight out of the capital.

Dujiangyan irrigation system — A channel cut through a mountain in the 3rd century BC without a dam, still irrigating the Chengdu plain. The suspension bridge and the temple above give you the whole layout.
Qingchengshan — A Daoist mountain of quiet paths, old temples and very good air. Take the cable car up and walk down.
South Bridge old street — Riverside teahouses and a night view of the weir, cooler than Chengdu by several degrees.
Hui halal restaurants in the town serve beef hotpot, hand-pulled noodles and Sichuan-style braised beef. Small selection, all pre-checked.
Dujiangyan mosque — Small and central; most travellers pray in Chengdu in the morning and back in Chengdu in the evening.
High-speed rail from Chengdu in 30 minutes, or a one-hour drive.

Leshan (Sichuan)

1 full day · March to November. Emeishan can be snowy and magical from December to February.

Home of the tallest stone Buddha in the world and the much quieter Emeishan behind it. Two hours from Chengdu and easy to combine into one soft, well-paced loop.

Leshan Giant Buddha — A 71-metre Buddha carved out of a cliff face in the 8th century. Take the boardwalk down beside it rather than the boat if you want to understand the scale.
Emeishan — One of the four sacred Buddhist mountains of China, with cable cars to the Golden Summit above the cloud line. Monkeys on the middle paths; keep food packed away.
Old town riverside — Teahouses and a slow evening on the Min river, with the Buddha cliff visible across the water.
Hui halal beef restaurants in Leshan town, and Muslim-run kitchens at the foot of Emeishan. Braised beef, beef noodles, and halal hotpot with a Sichuan broth.
Leshan mosque — A small active mosque in town. On Emeishan we plan prayer at the base hotel.
High-speed rail from Chengdu in about an hour. Emeishan station sits between the two.

Jiuzhaigou (Sichuan)

1 full day · April to November. October is peak autumn colour; the park restricts daily entries so book early.

A Y-shaped valley of stepped lakes and waterfalls in the northern Min mountains, at 2,000 to 3,100 m, and the single most beautiful landscape in Sichuan. Tibetan and Qiang villages at the mouth of the valley.

Five Flower Lake — Travertine lake beds with water so clear the fallen tree trunks underwater look like they are floating. Boardwalks all the way round.
Nuorilang falls — A wide curtain waterfall about 300 metres across, and the junction where the two branches of the valley meet.
Zharu valley — The quieter southern branch, with Tibetan villages and almost a fraction of the visitors. Worth the extra half day.
Tibetan and Hui-run halal restaurants near the valley entrance serve yak beef hotpot, hand-pulled noodles and barley flatbread. Inside the park, we pack a halal lunch in advance.
Jiuzhaigou mosque — Near the valley entrance, serving the Hui community who run many of the hotels and restaurants here.
Jiuzhaigou Huanglong (JZH) airport with flights from Chengdu and Xian, or a long scenic drive of eight to ten hours from Chengdu.
Day by day

How the 9 days actually run

A working skeleton, not a fixed package. We rebuild it around your dates, your prayer needs and whoever is travelling with you.

1

Arrive in Chengdu

Chengdu Tianfu (TFU) and Shuangliu (CTU). Direct flights from most of China plus a good number of international gateways. Your Muslim guide meets you at the gate with your name on a board. First stop is a hotel we have placed within walking distance of Huangcheng Mosque, so Maghrib is a short walk rather than a negotiation. Dinner is already booked at a halal kitchen we have audited.

2

Chengdu — Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding

Get there before 9am when the pandas are actually awake and feeding. The site is large and shaded, and a buggy saves a lot of walking.

3

Chengdu to Dujiangyan

Leave after Dhuhr and drive out. High-speed rail from Chengdu in 30 minutes, or a one-hour drive. Your guide breaks the drive for salah and for food rather than at a service station of his choosing. You arrive in time for Maghrib at Dujiangyan mosque.

4

Dujiangyan — Dujiangyan irrigation system

A channel cut through a mountain in the 3rd century BC without a dam, still irrigating the Chengdu plain. The suspension bridge and the temple above give you the whole layout.

5

Dujiangyan to Leshan

Set off mid-morning, once the light is good. High-speed rail from Chengdu in about an hour. Emeishan station sits between the two. We stop for salah, and lunch is a halal kitchen we have booked on the route rather than whatever is nearest the motorway. You arrive in time for Maghrib at Leshan mosque.

6

Leshan — Leshan Giant Buddha

A 71-metre Buddha carved out of a cliff face in the 8th century. Take the boardwalk down beside it rather than the boat if you want to understand the scale.

7

Leshan to Jiuzhaigou

Depart after a late breakfast and a short walk. Jiuzhaigou Huanglong (JZH) airport with flights from Chengdu and Xian, or a long scenic drive of eight to ten hours from Chengdu. The drive is broken twice: once for prayer, once for a proper halal meal, with water and a prayer mat in the vehicle. You arrive in time for Maghrib at Jiuzhaigou mosque.

8

Jiuzhaigou — Five Flower Lake

Travertine lake beds with water so clear the fallen tree trunks underwater look like they are floating. Boardwalks all the way round.

9

Depart from Jiuzhaigou

A last halal breakfast, then the transfer out. Jiuzhaigou Huanglong (JZH) airport with flights from Chengdu and Xian, or a long scenic drive of eight to ten hours from Chengdu. We hold the vehicle until your flight is called, and if you are fasting we send a breakfast box the night before.

Every day is salah-first. Chengdu, Dujiangyan, Leshan, Jiuzhaigou each have mosques we have used before; on the driving legs your guide breaks the journey at prayer time rather than at a service station of his choosing.

Halal food

What you eat, city by city

No pork on the premises, no alcohol on the premises, and no kitchen that handles both. This is the part we audit in person.

Chengdu

Sichuan halal beef is a genuine tradition here: braised beef, beef hotpot with a halal broth, Muslim-run lamb skewers and hand-pulled noodles. There are more than a hundred halal kitchens inside the ring road. Huangcheng Mosque is nearby, so you can pray and eat on the same street.

Dujiangyan

Leshan

Hui halal beef restaurants in Leshan town, and Muslim-run kitchens at the foot of Emeishan. Braised beef, beef noodles, and halal hotpot with a Sichuan broth. Leshan mosque is nearby, so you can pray and eat on the same street.

Jiuzhaigou

Fasting? Tell us and we run the route in Ramadan: suhoor boxes delivered before Fajr, slow afternoons, and iftar confirmed at a halal restaurant every single night.
Prayer

Where you pray on this route

Not a list of every mosque in the province — the ones we actually build into this itinerary, with wudhu and women’s space confirmed.

Huangcheng Mosque

Chengdu

Central, historic and very active. Jumuah is easy and the surrounding streets are full of halal food.

A strong Hui community and a central historic mosque, so salah is not a problem. The panda base has a quiet room; your guide knows where.

Dujiangyan mosque

Dujiangyan

Small and central; most travellers pray in Chengdu in the morning and back in Chengdu in the evening.

Easy as a day trip because you never lose the Chengdu mosque: leave after Fajr, back well before Maghrib.

Leshan mosque

Leshan

A small active mosque in town. On Emeishan we plan prayer at the base hotel.

Pray in Leshan town, then carry a mat for the Emeishan day. Your guide checks the cable car queues so you are not stuck in line at prayer time.

Jiuzhaigou mosque

Jiuzhaigou

Near the valley entrance, serving the Hui community who run many of the hotels and restaurants here.

Altitude is the main thing. We spend one night at the mouth of the valley before going in, plan prayer at the entrance mosque, and carry a packed halal lunch into the park.

On the road: your guide carries a prayer mat, a compass and a prayer-time sheet calculated for your exact dates, and stops the vehicle rather than the prayer.

FAQ

Questions travellers ask us every week

It is private. There is no seat-in-coach departure and no joining other travellers — the vehicle, the guide and the 9 days belong to your party alone. You pick the start date and we build around it. That is also why the halal logistics work: a kitchen booking for four people is a conversation, not a contract.
Every restaurant on this route is a certified halal kitchen with no pork and no alcohol on the premises. In Chengdu, Dujiangyan, Leshan, Jiuzhaigou we use: Sichuan halal beef is a genuine tradition here: braised beef, beef hotpot with a halal broth, Muslim-run lamb skewers and hand-pulled noodles; Hui halal restaurants in the town serve beef hotpot, hand-pulled noodles and Sichuan-style braised beef; Hui halal beef restaurants in Leshan town, and Muslim-run kitchens at the foot of Emeishan; Tibetan and Hui-run halal restaurants near the valley entrance serve yak beef hotpot, hand-pulled noodles and barley flatbread. You receive the complete list with street addresses before you fly, and your guide re-confirms each booking the day before you eat there.
Huangcheng Mosque in Chengdu (Central, historic and very active. Jumuah is easy and the surrounding streets are full of halal food.); Dujiangyan mosque in Dujiangyan (Small and central; most travellers pray in Chengdu in the morning and back in Chengdu in the evening.); Leshan mosque in Leshan (A small active mosque in town. On Emeishan we plan prayer at the base hotel.); Jiuzhaigou mosque in Jiuzhaigou (Near the valley entrance, serving the Hui community who run many of the hotels and restaurants here.). On the driving legs your guide breaks the journey at prayer time. Every vehicle carries a prayer mat, a compass and a sheet of prayer times calculated for your exact dates.
This is our gentlest pacing: short legs, one base at a time, and most days are a city day rather than a road day. Chengdu · Dujiangyan · Leshan · Jiuzhaigou are spread over 9 days, so you are never in the vehicle long enough to lose a prayer.
Yes, and we do it often. Suhoor boxes are delivered to your hotel before Fajr, afternoons are kept slow, iftar is confirmed at a certified halal restaurant every night, and we find you a mosque for Taraweeh wherever you happen to be. If you want to spend the last ten nights or Eid in one city, tell us and we will re-cut the route around it.
International flights and Chinese visas are quoted separately. Travel insurance, personal shopping, optional activities outside the plan and tips are not included — and we do not add shopping stops to make up the difference. Everything listed under What is included is genuinely in the price.
